The Coach Tyrone Wright Sr. Fund is a nonprofit organization scholarship fund based in Seaside, California. It was established to honor the legacy of Coach Tyrone Wright Sr. Also known as "Coach T", he is a beloved community leader and mentor within Monterey County. Coach T is known for his extensive work with children and teens, particularly through after-school and summer sports programs, as well as his support for children with special needs. For many years, Coach T volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County and the Special Kids Crusade, helping children with special needs have fun playing basketball and other indoor activities.
Coach T also coached football, baseball, as well as basketball for Seaside, Carmel, and Marina high schools. He was also asked to become Senior Advisor for the girls basketball team at Gonzales High School. During the off-season he worked with local travel teams to complete in basketball competitions. Organizations such as the Seaside Police Athletics League (PAL), the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), and Seaside Select (an organized basketball team from Seaside). He also organized his own travel basketball team named “Wright Stars” to play in the Amateur Athletics Union (AAU) basketball competition . "Wright Stars" qualified for Nationals in the AAU which was a major accomplishment for the Wright Stars.
In 2013, Coach T was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease which prevented him from doing all the things he loved in the community however, the Coach Tyrone Wright Sr. Fund continues the passion, inspiration, and impact that all began with Coach Tyrone Wright Sr.
